IMF Praises Saudi Tourism for Record Growth in 2024

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has recognized Saudi Arabia’s tourism industry as a key driver of economic diversification in its latest 2025 Article IV Consultation Report.
According to the IMF, the Kingdom’s tourism sector achieved remarkable milestones in 2024:

30 million visitors arrived in Saudi Arabia — an 8% increase compared to 2023.

International tourist spending hit SAR 169 billion, reflecting a 19% year-on-year surge.

The sector is significantly contributing to reducing the current account deficit and accelerating the Vision 2030 transformation plan.
The IMF emphasized that tourism growth is not only boosting economic performance but also creating jobs, enhancing hospitality services, and elevating Saudi Arabia’s position as a global travel destination.
This recognition highlights the Kingdom’s commitment to positioning tourism as a cornerstone of its non-oil economy, reinforcing its standing on the international stage.
