Five Telangana Nationals Sentenced to Two Years in Prison in Bahrain
The Bahrain media reported on August 20, 2025, that in a significant food safety violation case, workers were prosecuted for forging product expiry dates, storing, and marketing expired food items. Among those sentenced:
-
Three individuals received three-year prison terms.
-
Nineteen workers, including five from Telangana, were handed two-year sentences. Following their prison term completion, the expatriates will be deported back to India.
The case has caught the attention of Telangana’s Gulf diaspora community. Gulf social workers from the state, including Kotagiri Naveen, have spotlighted the matter. One of the jailed workers, Bantu Babu (32 years old, from Kondapur village in Mustabad Mandal, Rajanna Sircilla district), had been living continuously in Bahrain for seven years. He reportedly applied for release from his job in May but was unexpectedly implicated in the case.
Authorities emphasize the importance for all expatriate workers to respect local civil, criminal, and labor laws in their host country. Families and community advocates are urging the Indian embassy and Telangana government to provide legal aid, facilitate compassionate consideration, and ensure that these workers receive fair treatment.
