Bahrain Implements Updated Traffic Law with Stricter Penalties
As of midnight on August 22, 2025, Bahrain’s updated traffic law has officially come into force, aiming to strengthen road safety and reduce accidents across the Kingdom.
Key provisions include:
-
Fines up to BD 10,000 (~$26,500) and prison terms up to 10 years for severe offenses like DUI-related accidents causing death.
-
Vehicle confiscation may be imposed for reckless driving, wrong-way driving, racing, or unauthorized public transport operation.
-
Speeding fines now range from BD 50 to BD 1,000 based on severity.
-
Red-light violations carry fines between BD 200 and BD 1,000, with potential imprisonment.
Authorities emphasize that the new law serves to enhance public safety, deter dangerous driving behaviors, and ensure compliance with traffic regulations for both citizens and expatriates.
Residents and expatriates are urged to familiarize themselves with the updated rules to avoid heavy penalties and maintain safe driving practices.
