Dubai Court Sentences Hyderabad Woman to 25 Years Prison on Drug Charges
Saturday, October 18, 2025 Dubai
A Dubai court has sentenced a 24-year-old woman from Hyderabad, identified as Ameena Begum, to 25 years in prison after she was found guilty of drug possession.
What Happened
Ameena, a resident of Kishan Bagh in Hyderabad, was reportedly approached by a travel agent who offered her a job at a beauty parlour in Dubai. Since she was seeking work following her divorce, she accepted the offer.
However, just before traveling to Dubai, she was instructed to fly first to Bangkok, where another agent handed her a parcel and asked her to carry it to Dubai.
Upon arrival at Dubai International Airport, her luggage was searched and found to contain narcotic substances. She was immediately detained and placed under legal charges in the UAE.
Court Ruling & Reaction
On October 8, 2025, the Dubai court delivered the judgment, sentencing Ameena to 25 years in prison. Her family members are now working to arrange legal assistance and file an appeal.
The family is financially strained: her father, Mohammed Ayub, is bedridden with paralysis, and her mother, Sultana Begum, works as a housemaid. Ameena is an only daughter, and her minor son is under her mother’s care following her arrest.
Because she was unable to secure legal counsel due to financial constraints, the family has appealed publicly for help in funding her legal defense.
