India has appointed Dr. Deepak Mittal, a senior Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, as the new Ambassador of India to the United Arab Emirates.
Dr. Mittal, who joined the IFS in 1998, brings over 25 years of diplomatic experience. He previously served as India’s Ambassador to Qatar and has held important positions in India’s Ministry of External Affairs, including handling multilateral diplomacy, India-US relations, and working on policy matters related to neighboring countries.
He will succeed Sunjay Sudhir, who has completed his tenure in Abu Dhabi. Dr. Mittal’s appointment is seen as a step to further strengthen India-UAE bilateral ties, which span across trade, energy, investment, technology, and cultural cooperation.
The UAE is home to over 3.5 million Indians, making this appointment highly significant for the Indian diaspora.
